inhalation
At ImmuONE, we specialise in inhalation and can provide in vitro models of the whole respiratory system, from the nose to the alveoli. We help clients choose the most suitable models for their assessments, whether they be our in-house developed models or other commercially available models. If nothing out there quite fits, we would be delighted to support you in developing models specifically tailored to your needs, or working with other groups to incorporate our cells into dynamic models.

Establishing the safety of new drugs or consumer products for inhalation often requires an assessment of how the substance interacts with both physical and immunological barriers in the alveolus. ImmuONE’s scientists have years of in-depth expertise in assessing the responses of alveolar epithelial and immune cells.
We use our patented ImmuLUNG™ and ImmuPHAGE™ models to carry out extensive alveolar cell line assays, including cell painting and more, and we’re skilled at using existing models and methods – as the needs of the client dictates.

Immunology
In vitro inhalation toxicology tends to be limited to epithelial cell culture models. However, with our growing understanding of inflammatory airways disease and particle deposition in the lungs, the importance of immune responses in inhalation toxicity assessment is becoming increasingly clear.
ImmuONE is specialised in lung immune responses, investigating how immune cells interact with drugs and, other compounds etc. Our cell painting assays reveal the effects of inhaled substances on a range of alveolar macrophage characteristics, including morphology, viability, lipid content and phagocytic activity.

Eye (COMING SOON)
ImmuONE experts have been involved in the development of an “eye-on-a-dish” platform that can be used to screen and assess the safety of any substance topically applied to the eye in house. Our own immunocompetent corneal model available for in-house services and can be used alongside commercial models aswell.

Macrophages are present throughout the entire human body and our alveolar macrophage experts are now applying their knowledge to other types of macrophages and the processes they are involved in.

Atherosclerosis (COMING SOON)
Macrophages play important roles in the chronic inflammatory disease atherosclerosis. Phagocytic proinflammatory cells contribute to cholesterol accumulation in atherosclerotic lesions, while anti-inflammatory macrophages participate in tissue repair and remodelling and plaque stabilisation.
We are currently developing lipid_ONE, an assay designed to predict how the intracellular lipid profiles of macrophages alter with compound exposure. lipid_ONE can be used to predict whether compound exposure contributes to atherosclerosis and the mechanisms by which this is likely to occur.
